History Of Basukinath Mandir
Basukinath Mandir is one of the oldest temples in the region and is located near the village of Jarmundi. The present structure is estimated to be around 150 years old and is said to have been built by Basaki Tatme, a tribal.
The Legend: It is believed that during the Sagar Manthan, Lord Vasuki, the serpent God worshipped the Shiva Lingam. For ages, it is also believed that the Nagas (snakes of different species) used to bathe the Shiva Lingam with milk and hence the shrine came to be known as Basukinath shivaling.

Baba Basukinath Dham is famous for the Shravani Mela between July and August. In the months of July-August, a large number of people from many states of India visit here and offer the holy water of Ganga to Lord Shiva. Which is also known as Kanwariya Mela or Kanwar Yatra.
Shravani Mela, also known as Kanwariya Mela, lasts for about one and a half months in the month from July to August. Shiva devotees first reach Sultanganj (Uttarvahini Ganga) in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar, which is about 135 km from Basukinath, and take the Ganges water and walk towards Baba Dham. The devotees going to Basukinath first visit Baidyanath Jyotirlinga in Deoghar. Those who reach Baidyanath Dham directly without stopping are called Dak Bam and those who reach in several days by stopping at many places are called Bol Bam.
Ram Janaki Vivah Utsav at Basukinath Dham
Ram Janaki Vivah Festival is celebrated every year at Basukinath Temple on Vivah Panchami. Biva Panchami is a Hindu festival celebrating the marriage of Rama and Sita.
It is celebrated on the fifth day of the Shukla Paksha from November to December, as per the English calendar. The day is celebrated as a festival of Sita and Rama’s Vivah in the temples. This festival is also called “Palki Utsav” as elephants and horses are used to be part of the procession.
