Shiv Tandav Stotram or Shiva Tandava Stotram (Sanskrit: शिवताण्डवस्तोत्र) is a Sanskrit Stotra (hymn) that is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

As per Hindu scriptures, Shiv Tandav Stotra was composed by Ravana, the king of Lanka. Shiva Tandava Stotram represents the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva which eliminates all negative energies. Ravana recited 15 verses for his deity Shiva and these verses were later known as Shiv Tandav Stotram. The last 2 verses of the Stotram were added later.

Origin Of Shiv Tandav Stotram

Ravana was the greatest devotee of Lord Shiva and he considered Shiva to be both his presiding deity and Guru.

Shiva Tandava Stotram (Stotra) was recited by Ravan to praise and please Lord Shiva. He describes Shiva’s unique attributes and poses during the Tandava Dance. He mentions in the Stotra how Lord Shiva’s hair moves, how the water of river Ganga splashes when he performs a Tandava dance, how his drums sound as he dances, how his ornaments move along with him, and more.
