Tapovan Hill is located 10 Km away from Deoghar Town. It is mainly famous because it was a meditation spot (Tapobhumi) for the Yogi and Saints in the olden days.
Tapovan Pahar is another adventurous place near Deoghar. Unlike Trikut Pahar, Tapovan Hills are small in height and size, but it is also known for their natural and spiritual beauty.
Tapovan is a popular trekking and picnic spot for locals. You can reach the top of the hill within 30 min by stairs. As you climb the stairs, you will see several temples and caves at different heights on the Tapovan Parvat. On the hilltop, you can get a panoramic view of the landscape.

Tapovan Mandir
Tapovan Pahar has its cultural relevance found in Hindu scriptures. There is a temple of Shiva called Taponath Mahadeva Mandir. In one of the caves, a Shiva lingam is installed, and it is said that Sage Valmiki came here for penance.
It is also believed that Sri Balananda Brahmachari obtained Siddhi (success through penance) here. And Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari, a disciple of Sri Balananda Brahmachari also used to come here for penance.
History Of Tapovan Deoghar
It is also said that Ravana came here for meditation, and while he was doing penance, the gods instructed Hanuman to break Ravan’s meditation. Hanuman jumped to the hill and burst the rocks of the hill. There is a Hanuman temple in the middle of that stone crack.
On the inner surface of the crack, you can see a portrait of Hanuman. This is an impressive feat as it is practically impossible to insert a paintbrush in the gap and draw anything.
Below the hill, there is a small Kund (water – body) called Sita Kunda by the local people. It is a holy water body. It is said that Sita used to take a bath here.
